The pilot's watch

Me 109 – fascination and tragedy

Having been restored laboriously and arduously, the "Rote7" ("Red 7") was airworthy again at last and took part in air shows. Then disaster struck – it had an accident while landing. But things aren't over for the men of the "Rote7". The myth lives on.

The "Rote7 Edition" pilots' watch, too, is a myth. The edition, limited to just 100 pieces, is the guarantor of that myth. There's just as much passion in the gold-plated rotor with the "Rote7" engraving in the 7750 Valjoux mechanism as there was in the "Rote7" team's work.

The plane

"The 'Rote 7' was presented to the public at Albstadt-Degerfeld airfield on 8 October 2004. After the formal addresses by a variety of speakers, several hundred visitors had the chance to marvel at two flights by Germany's third airworthy Bf 109 in less than ideal weather."
